1 cup sugar
½ cup milk
1 ½ cups flour, sifted several times
Juice from 1 lemon
4 egg whites, beaten till stiff
Powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 375°.

Lightly cut together butter and sugar. Then add milk and sifted flour, alternately. Beat vigorously. Flavor with juice of 1 lemon. In a second bowl beat egg whites until stiff. Fold beaten egg whites into batter. Pour into 9 x 13-inch greased and floured pan. Bake until cake springs back when touched (about 20 minutes, but be careful not to overbake).
