Recipe: Spice Cake

Here’s another sweet Amana Colonies treat for you to try!

Spice Cake

½ cup vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon cloves
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
½ cup cocoa
1 cup buttermilk
½ cup raisins

Preheat oven to 350. Cream shortening and sugar. Stir in eggs; beat well. SIft together flour, soda, spices and cocoa. Add sifted ingredients and buttermilk to creamed mixture, alternately, beating well. Stir in raisins. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes. Dust top with powdered sugar or frost with vanilla frosting.
