ZUBER’S HOMESTEAD HOTEL
HOMESTEAD, IOWA
Bonnie and Brian welcome you to Zuber’s Homestead Hotel, a part of the historic Amana Colonies. Both were born and raised in Iowa. Through out their lifetime, they traveled to many parts of Iowa enjoying the heritage and features of the state through day trips or long weekends. They both remember coming to eat at Bill Zuber’s Dugout Restaurant when it was open! As their children grew up, Bonnie and Brian began to consider what they might do when they became “empty nesters”. Bonnie had always dreamed of owning a bed and breakfast. So they began looking for a possible match for their future opportunity.
Our ‘story’ still includes Brian, however sadly, he passed away in August of 2023.
For about 18 months they searched on the Internet, went to stay at various Bed and Breakfasts that were for sale, and they even went to a Bed and Breakfast College in Illinois. They knew that they wanted to stay in Iowa to be close to family. Both were from farming backgrounds and enjoy being outside working with the land so finding a property that also had some outdoor space to develop was a plus. They knew their backgrounds in working with the public would be a benefit as innkeepers. Brian enjoys history and has degrees in Ag Economics and Public Affairs, Bonnie enjoys decoration, gardening, baking, music, and has degrees in Elementary and Early Childhood Education. Then, after about 8 months of searching Bonnie came across an advertisement in the paper for a business opportunity in the Amanas. Zuber’s Homestead Hotel was available for sale – it seemed the perfect combination of their dreams and interests!
In May of 2013, Brian and Bonnie became the new owners of Zuber’s Homestead Hotel fulfilling a dream to become innkeeper/owners of a unique bed and breakfast located in Iowa.
Zuber’s Homestead Hotel offers a memorable experience staying in a century old hotel with varied-sized rooms all fitted with modern amenities. The room names and themes reflect a celebration of Iowa – it’s heritage, people, places, and culture. In the rooms you’ll find a notebook with information about things to do and see in the Amana Colonies, information about the theme of the room, and suggested area day-trips that would help you learn even more about that particular Iowa theme.
