Recipe: Amana Apple Fritters

September 26, 2016 | Recipes

Here’s another, slightly different apple fritters recipe for you to try!

Amana Apple Fritters

¼ cup sugar
6 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into rings
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
½ cup milk
3 egg whites, beaten until nearly stiff
Lard or vegetable shortening for deep fat frying
Powdered sugar

Sprinkle ¼ cup sugar over apples and set aside. Mix flour, baking powder, and milk. Fold egg whites into this mixture and combine to form a light batter.

Dip each apple ring into the batter and deep fat fry. Communal cooks used lard, but vegetable shortening works nearly as well. Fry until golden brown. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve warm.

Serves four.

Note: It’s best to use sweet, firm Jonathan or McIntosh apples
