Recipe: Frosted Christmas Butter Cookies
3 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 c. butter or regular margarine
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
3 eggs
1 c. dairy sour cream
Vanilla Frosting
Sift together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; set aside. Cream together butter, sugar and brown sugar in bowl until light and fluffy, using electric mixer at medium speed. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add dry ingredients alternately with sour cream to creamed mixture, beating well after each addition, using electric mixer at low speed. Drop mixture by rounded teaspoonsful, about 3-inches apart, on greased baking sheets. Bake in a 350° oven 8 to 10 minutes, or until edges are browned. Remove from baking sheets; cool on racks. Prepare Vanilla Frosting. Frost cookies with Vanilla Frosting. Makes 7 dozen. (Make into small cookies.)
Vanilla Frosting: Combine 4 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 4 tablespoons milk in bowl. Beat until smooth, using a spoon. Add 1 more tablespoon milk, if necessary, to make frosting of spreading consistency. To make Lemon Frosting, add 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Very good and taste rich.
